Yoriichi and his twin brother Michikatsu were born into the Tsugikuni clan during the Warring States period. The birth of twins is considered an extremely bad omen because there will be a competition to choose the family heir. Despite being twins, Yoriichi was born with a strange, ugly birthmark on his forehead, making his father want to kill him from birth. However, his mother was extremely angry and took action to stop this cruel act. In the end, their father had to agree not to kill Yoriichi but to send him to a temple to become a monk when he was 10 years old.
They are twins, but Yoriichi and Michikatsu are treated completely differently. Yoriichi lived in a cramped room the size of three mats, with torn clothes, poor food, and no education. Michikatsu, on the other hand, stayed in a large luxurious room, dressed in nice clothes, ate delicious food, and received a full education.
Until the age of seven, Yoriichi was considered mute by birth, as he never spoke to others and often clung to the left side of his ailing mother. Many people think it is a manifestation of fear, timidity and seeking pity from the mother. But the reality was completely different, he realized that his mother’s illness was gradually getting worse, weakening, gradually paralyzing the left half of his body. He was just trying to be a fulcrum for his mother, making it easier for her to walk.
Therefore, Michikatsu felt that Yoriichi was pitiful. Michikatsu hid his father from coming to see and play with Yoriichi, even giving him a hand-made flute.
One day, while Michikatsu was practicing swordsmanship in the garden, Yoriichi stood silently by the pine tree and watched. The boy smiled and spoke first, declaring his intention to become a samurai like his brother. This startled Michikatsu so much that he dropped the wooden sword in his hand because he had always thought that his brother was dumb. However, Michikatsu feels that is impossible as Yoriichi will be sent to the temple as a monk when he reaches the age of ten.
The very next day, Yoriichi asked his brother to teach him swordsmanship. Michikatsu’s sword master made a humorous decision to Yoriichi, allowing him to fight him with a bamboo sword. Unexpectedly, with only instructions on how to hold the sword and how to stand, Yoriichi dashed in to defeat his sword master with just four moves, leaving the master powerless to counterattack and shocking his brother.
Yoriichi Demon Slayer
However, Yoriichi couldn’t stand the feeling of hitting someone, it made him very uncomfortable and since then he never mentioned wanting to become a swordsman again. It took Michikatsu quite a bit of time and patience to ask Yoriichi how he was able to defeat the sword master so easily. Yoriichi revealed that he was able to win because he was able to grasp his opponent’s movements before attacking. He could see through their bones, the contractions of their muscles, and the flow of blood in their bodies, seeing the opponent’s body almost transparent.
What Yorichi used was the initial form of the later Origin Breath. After that, Yoriichi didn’t want to talk about swordsmanship anymore, but wanted to play and fly kites with his brother. But he didn’t know that his brother felt angry, frustrated and defeated because the person he still pitied was better than him.
Michikatsu fears that the twins’ positions will be completely reversed when the family member reports on Yorichi’s kendo prowess. Michikatsu will be sent to a small room with 3 mats, while his younger brother Yorrichi will be allowed to live in. This made Michikatsu even more depressed, frustrated and far away from his dream of becoming a swordsman.
One evening, Yoriichi went to his brother’s room to say that their mother had died of illness and said goodbye to his brother, intending to leave home. He expressed gratitude towards his brother, declaring that he would always keep him in mind, and carefully stored the flute that Michikatsu had made for him earlier. That night Yoriichi left with almost nothing with him.
While reading her late mother’s diary, Michikatsu realizes that Yoriichi already knows everything about their mother’s illness. He had planned to leave the night of her death to give his brother the right of succession and run away from being sent to the temple. However, this further upsets Michikatsu and develops a hatred for Yoriichi.
Later, Yoriichi and Michikatsu both became extremely powerful Demon Slayers, developing their own Breath Styles. Once the two obtained the Mark of Demon Slayer, Yoriichi expressed his plans to have a successor, although Michikatsu believes that no one can reach their full potential and reach their power.
Eventually the two parted, Yoriichi continued his journey to hunt demons to become stronger and search for a successor for sixty years. Although the death sentence will come when the Demon Slayer activates the demon-slaying seal to the age of 25, Yoriichi somehow manages to survive until he is over 80 years old.
Based on the past memories Tanjiro had from his ancestors, Sumiyoshi and Yoriichi had a certain close relationship, Yoriichi frequently stopping at Sumiyoshi’s house for food and tea. Sumiyoshi also implied that Yoriichi once saved his life and that he is indebted to it. Based on their conversation, it was revealed that Yoriichi had neither heir nor successor in his swordsmanship at the time. Yoriichi’s eyes always carried an indescribable sadness, perhaps because he knew that his brother accepted to become a demon serving Muzan, whom they wanted to destroy.

Ability
Demon Slayer Mark: A special mark that appears on the bodies of powerful Demon Slayers. It greatly improves Demon Slayers’ abilities, making them stronger, faster, and able to react better, albeit at the cost of dying at 25. Unlike all Marksmen. Another Demon Slayer, Yoriichi was able to defy fate and live to be over 80 years old. It is currently unknown why Yoriichi is immune to the effects of the Demon Slayer Mark.
